I think that you are in more of a limit mentality. In NL, playing 75 offsuit in the SB just because there are 3 limpers is not a good idea. Lots of people do it, but I dont like it at all.

Youre out of position for the whole hand, and if the flop is somethign like K73 or Q95, youre not going to get correct odds to chase a 5 outer like you would in limit. Someone is going to bet the pot ( not just one bet which might give you good odds in a limit game.)

LP adjustment to limpers

Postby snok » Sun Jul 31, 2005 4:12 pm

No no, I'm ONLY interested in NL play.

But I would like to hear some fresh thoughts on how to adjust to limpers.
I normally increase my raising bets to (4+L=# of limpers)*BB.
But I'm thinking that the starting criteria also should generally be effected by the presence of limpers.

Clearly, a limper in front of you represents more strength than a folded hand...
I'm thinking this might be either seen as a source of chips to be won or as a threat to my stack.

So, again, do you loosen up or tighten up with more limpers before you when playing in LP?

Cheers,

Snok

How about 75s from the SB with 6 limpers?

my Vol Put in from SB is at about 70% for today...

With 75o I'm looking for a straight (draw), or the very least two-pair. On lower limits I think this works, I've been making a small profit from both the blinds for months now. I never EVER call a raise from the SB without a premium hand though, THAT is a mistake I see a lot of people make.

I'll complete in the SB with any hand that has any kind of potential. Such as one-gappers, Kx suited, any Ace (looking for two-pair or trips with top kicker)... I'm definetely going to try Ice's raise with any two cards against open-limpers on the button though.

no concensus for the SB... What about LP?

OK - so these situations are handled very differently depending on player preferences...
I had hoped the issue of adjusting to limpers was well resolved in terms of +Ev vs hand selection/chosen action.

Given that the SB seems delicate, how about adjusting on the button or CO?

1.
Raise more frequently to isolate weak limp-holdings, and discourage the blinds from interferring? Surely this is +Ev, unless there are known sneaky limpers in EP.

2.
Or limp along with extra (marginal) hands and let position work? Taking flops in position against weak holdings (with many limpers, it's also likely to be weak players in the pot) surely also must be +Ev. Or will Ice and clones (ie, strong aggro players) just raise the crap out of me from the blinds?

I'd say these are distinctly different approaches that both make sense, but perhaps one is better? Actual results would be the judge of that.

Any takers?

Cheers,
Snok
