5max and 6max tables?

Postby SebQtaneus » Mon Aug 29, 2005 10:39 pm

What are the bebnfits of playing these shorthanded tables? Is it so that you can feel safer playing a wider range of hands? Or is there a better reason? I'm not being a smartass, I really want to know. I think one reason might be that you have less people who you have to try and get a read on. But I have no clue if that's the reason most of the people on those tables are actually there.

Sounds like good advice you guys. Thanks.
Jav, I wasn't necessarily looking to play the shorthanded tables because of the higher profit potential although that is a nice aspect. More that I am looking for a way to play less tables without getting so bored. I mean sometimes playing only 1 or 2 tables of full ring can get quite boring if you're not playing very loose and not getting any cards. So a situation that lends itself to a bit more looseness seems like it might let me play only one or two tables at a time (preferably just one) and not get qute so bored with it. When I get bored I make a lot more mistakes as I'm sure a lot of people do. I also am thinking (after reading the above posts) that it might also help me get better on my post flop play. If I start losing more than I'm comfortable with I can always go back to full ring or drop down a step limit wise.

Six handed games are for experienced players - not for me.

They always cleaned me up at 6seat tables. Maybe not that much but I dont do really good at them. I think there is a problem with me loosening too much.

Think about 6 max tables.

If 9 players are dealt in then that is 18 cards vs. 12 cards. That changes the odds for the hands. Pocket pair in a 10 hand HE game is about 1.6 to 1 in a six handed game it is 2.4:1. So the cards move up in relative power but the blinds come faster.

A 10 handed HE game AK comes around about 165:1 - a six handed HE game it comes less often.

You have more marginal hands dealt with faster blinds. Sounds like a tough game. You never really get to be in late position, just EP and MP. The button is a more powerful position.

The are fun and fast games but I think it requires shorthanded skills. I can play down to 7 players after that I have a tough time adjusting.

I sat down on a 6 max $2 BB table while waiting for a 9 player table. I won $25 and left when a table opened up.

I had AA and KK once each and each time I raised the pot size to $7 or $9 they folded. I asked and a player said that I raised too much.

I don't like to make a mini- raise with AA or KK.

Comments - I did see one hand where KK vs AT - AT opened raise and KK made it $10 to go. The AT got a full house

Comments?
