NL 102--sophomore class

Having read through a lot of threads here, and having read several books which help the beginner, we need a thread which puts out more advanced lessons. So, OK...

ATTN: Oxford Dons of BTP Poker U!

Re: Lessons

We, the ones who are playing the lower limits and want to move up, respectfully ask you to build a lesson plan here.

We, the ones who benefit greatly from your experience, appreciate your advice.

Bet the Pot

Continuation Bets

Implied Odds and Folding Equity

Bluffing and calling bluffs

Making moves and Fancy Play Syndrome

When the cards don't come

When the cards DO come--in bunches

Players out of line

That's a start, maybe.
Thanks,
CJ

LOL---This is exactly what I've kinda been doing or trying to do with my "beginners lesson" posts.

I'm not qualified or skilled enough to write for a predetermined lesson plan though. I pretty much just try to share any epipanies I've had from moving up from lower levels. These epiphanies are pretty fresh in my mind whereas I'm guessing they are long distant memories (and maybe now just instincts) for the more advanced players on the site.

Where do you think I got the idea, Tim? :)

This is just my second (and last?) shot at making a topic worth a sticky. The other was the PL thread. I guess I'm just not ever going to come up with an idea worthy of a sticky thread. :(

CJ, I think you have a great idea, just give it some time. Maybe not in this thread but something like this will come together. I think one thing you might be able to do is go back through all the old threads and you just might find some of the answers to these question's. I know I have seen discussion's on some of this stuff in the previous threads. I'll see what I can find.
The Big Lebowski: Are you employed, sir?
The Dude: Employed?
The Big Lebowski: You don't go out looking for a job dressed like that? On a weekday?
The Dude: Is this a... what day is this?

I guess I could go back through the archives and do some cutting and pasting into the threads. I hope, eventually, we'll have a BTP book for advancing players. That would be very cool, indeed.

I think what you are trying to achieve is great but maybe the way you are trying to achieve it is the problem. We have some very gifted players on this forum but it is difficult for anyone to write something for others that is supposed to "the authority" on a subject. I think also there are few players who maybe feel confident enough to write something to be stand alone anyhow, I know I have thoughts but its not biblical stuff.

I think also you maybe need to define what you mean in terms of limits etc. I have gone from the $25NL to $100NL and made some huge adjustments each time. This would mean things I do might already not be the best advice for someone coming up. I imagine this goes double for guys playing $200NL up.

Maybe we should see if we could get a player to host a thread on a subject. Similar to what Peirs has done on limit where he starts the subject then lets the conversation flow. This way everyone can chip in. To start the thread all the player really needs to do is put in a basic definition of the concept maybe with a few examples and let it flow.

I have no problem volunteering for one thread (so long as it is not fold equity) since I imagine anything I write will be added to by the players better then me as the thread developes. People can question stuff as it goes down and if I make a horses ass of things I might learn something too.
