$100NL--Paired Flop

Postby T-Rod » Wed Sep 21, 2005 7:36 am

Playing full ring for a change $100NL at Party

Villain $210, Me $145

Villain has a VPIP of over 50% and pfr of 25% over 200 hands. He's not a total maniac as he only goes to showdown 17% which is pretty low in my DB. I haven't seen him showdown any bad hands.

I limp in EP with 2 [c] 2[s]
Villain raises pf to $3, all folds. I call. This guy regularly raises $2-3 and will occasionally pop it up to $4 or 5 but not regularly.

Flop J[c] T[h] J[s] pot ($7.50)

I check, villain bets $6.

What do you do? What hand do you put him on?

doesn't really matter what i think he has b/c i'm folding! you say he's reasonable post-flop, so stick in a check raise if you like, but out of position w/ dueces, i'm just moving on to the next hand. if you were to try to take the hand away from this guy, it should've been before the flop, w/ a reraise + continuation bet.

(also, maybe shouldn't be limping up front w/ 22 and a 25% pfr behind you :) )

hmm tim, i think you're right about the pf business. no doubt i would be willing to take a flop w/ a pair against this guy for any reasonable raise. not sure what i was thinking.

Stoneberg wins the prize.

I check raised him to $17and he instantly folded.

The reasons why I check raised were:
1) If he had a J or a 10, why lead with a pot sized bet on the flop? Unless your kennyg, that's usually a bluff. Most people value bet there.
2) This guy raises 1/2 his hands and does lots of weak min raises. I give his raise no respect. Because his raise was weak, its logical for him to put me on a J or a 10.
3) He doesn't like to go to showdown. Lots of preflop muscle but it fades after the flop.

Some loose maniac types are really weak tighties in disguise; however, this is a high variance play.
