I just called pre, since no one was folding, i thought the element of surprise could get
me an extra bet on later streets. Is this just poor thinking?

Hmm. Fair enough.

I guess if I raise preflop, I can rep the A and get to showdown, and get paid by 99-JJ, etc..

Looking at this hand you gotta be primarily a NL player. You are not "trapping" anyone by flat-calling in a three way pot with QQ. May be a good play in NL in the right situation, almost never a good play in a limit game.

Remember:
Limit poker is all about about pushing tiny edges maximally over and over and over.
NL is about pushing huge edges infrequently.

This is way oversimplified, but it reminds one that limit doesn't have the implied odds that NL does and so you have to maximize your opportunity on every single street.

You are not raising QQ? What for? Where are you gonna get the bets ion the pot if you don't do it PF? Just as mentined before its not a situation where on a good flop you can make someone make a decision for alot of chips. Those chips NEED to get in the pot. 3-bet PF and raise the flop. That wasy you are sure. If you are gonna fold to a turn bet, you should have just folded on the flop. If you folded because you think you are behind after the fell. You were behind before too. He could have anythin 88- up.

I would have raised the flop, then fired again on the turn. If he calls both I would just check down on the river if given the option.

If you 3-bet PF, the button "may" have capped and thus forcing the SB out. Then you most likley would have won a BIGGER pot instead of losing a smaller one.
