How many places pay? What's the payoff structure? What position is he in? What's the average stack size?

In any case, I can't see that my answer is going to be anything other than "push all in".

I gotta say your responses have helped enormously..we have discussed this hand a lot..I would have folded the hand and tried to make the money hoping to wait for a better hand..if I come in the money by laying that hand down I play the next day with the same money I bought into this one, (another tournament another day) with my head in a place telling me that with $15K in chips its highly unlikey I am going to come in the top 5 money places..not impossible but unlikely..

and your right...the move here was to shove..there were 3 players to act after, 2 with big chip stacks and one (the caller) with about 25K in chips..the guy who called who thought awhile before calling (he may have been thinking about laying down his JJ or about pushing all in) ..the big stacks would have made the call with a wider variety of hands....the caller with his JJ and my friend with his AQ suited were the only ones in the hand and the flop came out AJ5...friend goes all in..and thats the end of that..the only possible way to get the JJ off the hand was to shove..a good player, IMO, would think about laying down his JJ....
