Here's my get-rich-quick scheme, only $15, buy now!

Sometimes I am absolutely flabbergasted at the claims that are made by people in order to make a quick buck. One person I know is a "free" stuff junkie. Whether she wants something or not - if she sees that it is free, she'll nab it with greedy paws and then pawn it off - either by trying to sell it or by trying to find someone who would want it. What it inevitably means is that she has her garage full of stuff that no one wants - not even her.

What is worse are the get rich quick schemes that she forwards around - because she's been taken in on them. She's never gotten rich, never quickly and has gone bankrupt once. Today, I saw an add for what I knew would be a get rich quick scheme - and of course its poker related.

"I win 86% of the time and make $48/hr - I'm a poker pro and you can be too!" is what it says. I know its not worth reading, but I felt like clicking the link - expecting to be taken to an ad-farm. Surprise however overcomes me as it appears - at first glance - to be a legitimate site (despite illegitimate claims of getting rich quick).

The player has a proven system (proven in his case - he's 24 years old and has bought some stuff (a house among other things) with his winnings), and if you click on his guide he'll show you how. So - as the unbelieving person I am - I click on the link. Here's the good one:

There's no guide there. You have to purchase it. He has testimonials - but not even excerpts of it to indicate if there's anything of worth. He has a few calendar icons to show how he has done over the last few months - but nothing about the "system" he is trying to sell. And every 5th set of words on the page is: Buy it now!

The kicker is that he has "reduced his price" by crossing it out not once, but twice and instead of the bargain price of $24.95 and $19.95 - you can now purchase it for the bargain price of $14.95. And yet there is still nothing to tell you what his system would help you with.

The best part however - is that satisfaction is guaranteed. Here's an obvious loophole. If I buy his system, for $14.95, and try out online poker and LOSE $1000, do you really think he's going to be able to guarantee my satisfaction. Even if he was to return the $14.95 - that's not satisfied. That's returning my money on an ill-advised purchase and now I'm out $1000.

I was tempted to include the link to the website - but god-forbid someone should purchase it - I don't want to have that be a possibility... I might actually feel guilty if the person I knew who wouldn't be able to control herself (and would purchase it because its at about 60% of the original price).

Okay - there's my rant for the day...
